rather late post+ college work +some old photos
another long hiatus. but i’m back with a lot of stuff.
first off the monsoon show at the Nehru Centre didn’t go too well. apparently the director was away overseas, and none was there to take up the initiative for publicity and overseeing the gallery. we didn’t get too many visitors.
but at least now we know!
on the plus side, i got myself on tv. IBN Lokmat, a local newchannel, aired a smal interview session. it was a news segment about the exhibition, and they just asked me some general stuff about the field, but an interesting experience nonetheless.
also, i read Demian (Herman Hesse) and Nightfall (Isaac Asimov). good books, but in both cases the ending felt a bit unfulfilling. especially Nightfall. although yes, it sure was one hell of a good concept. Demian was really great too, a very heavy, philosophical work i should say, but the ending left a lot of loose ends for me. or maybe it was supposed to be that way and i didn’t get it? i’m not sure but i’d been searching for this book for a very long time, and maybe i expected differently, so i’m looking at it in a biased way. basically i wanted a bigger punch at the end, or maybe some more profoundness. don’t get me wrong though, i’m not saying it’s not profound. i’m just referring to the ending.
but i won’t discuss these here. i’ll put it up as a book review in a separate post.
what else? doing stuff like this at college:
i’m trying to work on a tinted acrylic base, to add to the solidity of form. it makes for easier handling, but colour judgement is a bit impaired. could be because of my choice of cool colours for each and every one of them
and also, i keep forgetting to put up this picture:
for some reason i really like this picture. it appears to tell a story. not sure what kind of story, but well, the folds on the bedsheet and the blurred figure in the background, they seem to have a strange narrative quality to them. i took this at my friend’s hostel. three people share a room there, and this image kind of seemed emblematic of this tiny world contained withing that tiny room.
in other news, i’ve been listening to Lady Gaga a lot these days. i used to find her very loud, but i guess i ‘m hooked now.
also, i’ve been reading Women and Art by Judy Chicago and Edward Lucie-Smith. this is a good book, one that all women artists should read, imo. it’s quite an eye-opener when it comes to unraveling the achievements of notable female artists in art history. i’m an art student, and a girl at that, and i must say i’m ashamed to admit that i know very little about women artists, as compared to male artists. so this is turning out to be a very educational work for me. i find a lot of personal resonance with many of the issues brought up in the book, especially regarding all the difficulties that women in the field have to face. i’m not about to start a sob story or anything, but yes, there are a lot of problems being faced by women artists, at least in south asia. more on this later.
i say ‘more on this later’ because i’d like to compartmentalize stuff. i don’t want a mixed bag update. guess this was just a teaser
. but well now i know what content to put into later posts
. other blogs that i follow, during the days i was dormant, they managed to come up with almost 8-9 posts! i should try and be more regular. and also, need more meaningful content. i could have dropped in to say hi, but this is a blog, not instant messaging, so i figured i ought to wait till i had something constructive to say.
plus, day before yesterday, i cooked chicken for the first time ever in my life, and it was great! most of the stuff i make is barely edible and i must say this time i really surprised myself!
well, have a good day everyone!

Are you still listening to GAGA?
