Rajasthan Camp

I’d gone off to rajasthan to attend a national art festival at Tonk, Rajasthan. Sadly, I must say that the workshop wasn’t a good one, despite the ‘national’ tag to it. Apparently the organizers were more concerned with promoting Tonk than making sure the workshop was conducted smoothly. But more than anything else, it wasn’t attended by hotshot students, and in workshops that’s the main thing you expect when you go, that you get to meet really talented new people. Clearly that was not the case as most of the students were there just to enjoy themselves. Quite disappointed on that front. In the least, there should have been an interation session with a contemporary artist, or a slideshow program or somesuch. Not even that. :(

Also, grasshoppers everywhere.

Now I know that it was a small town to begin with, and I appreciate the fact that many of the staff were very friendly and did their best to be as hospitable as possible, but still, when it’s a national level workshop, things need to be managed better. Because in a situation like this, if things go wrong you’ll leave a bad impression on people from all around the country.

All this and much more drama happened at Tonk. I don’t think I’ll be attending another workshop there anytime soon.

mwahahhahah

However, Tonk was not the only place we visited in Rajasthan. We went to Jaipur, a wonderful city. I’ve been told it’s called the ‘Pink City’ and I had assumed it was because most of the houses there had this colour, but our ricksaw driver stated that it was named so as it was the favourite colour of one of the queens.

this is the ceiling, mind you

He lost me there.

We only got to spend one day at Rajasthan, but it was a good wholesome day with lots of running from one landmark to another and of course, shopping. I really wished to spend more time there, but college was going hectic as always, so we had to leave asap. The saddest, saddest thing is that we went to rajasthan but never got to see the desert, because apparently that area is almost 10 hours away from jaipur, and we didn’t have enough time to make it there and back.

Tldr; workshop bad, trip good.
